Chart Trivia Week 18

The Emancipation Of Mei Mei

When she started in 2005, Jocie Guo was singing bubble gum pop such as ‘Lao Shu Ai Da Mi’ and ‘Bu Pa Bu Pa’ which were both Top 3 hits and gave her instant fame. However, the image soon wear thin and her chart performances degraded so much that her 2nd album can only have ‘Ai Qing Nv Shen’ limped to No.17. Her career was in a bottleneck.

From 2007 to 2009, she undergone a major turnaround in image and song and she was eventually rewarded, as ‘Er Ren Tong Xing’ became her 1st ever No.1. What’s more, it dethroned S.H.E’s ‘Shero’.

Such major turnaround in career is not rare, but to do so in 5 years is really exceptional.

This is also the first time a Channel U production has a No.1 song, and thus effectively, making ‘The Illusionist’ the most successful TV soundtrack in 2010, beating ‘Together’.

Major Opening

It has No.1 written all over it, and it is destined for big success.

Little surprise that the all stars collaboration of A-Do, Tanya, JJ and Stefanie, ‘Gan Dong Mei Yi Ke’ flown up 11-3 amidst the grand opening of World Expo. This is the best opening in the Top 10 in for a local song since Yue Lei opened at No.1 in 1983 with ‘Yi Zhi Xiao Yu San’.

Strangely, not a single song opened at No.2 before except the 1st week of the first and second series.

All Grown Up

It is a very good week for local acts. Besides the outstanding performance of Jocie and the all stars collaboration, By2 has scored their 1st ever Top 10 hit, as ‘Da Ren De Shi Jie’ jumped 15-8. This is their best since ‘Wo Zhi Dao’ got to No.11 in 2009.

Also, kudos to Jaycee Fang as ‘Ruo Wu Qi Shi’ is his biggest ever, as it climbs 18-15 this week.

A few missed trivia

Just realised some interesting chart trivia for the past few weeks:

1. Coco Lee has officially tied Jiang Meiqi as the unluckiest artiste – 15 hits without a single No.1. Actually, Jiang Meiqi is slightly poorer in luck as she is without a Top 3 hit. Coco has 1.

2. SHE now has 35 Top 20 hits, tying Aaron Kwok as the artiste with the 2nd most entries on the chart. They still need 7 more hits to tie Andy Lau at 42.

WHAT tonight tonight rebounded? am i the only one who thinks the song sounds horrible?

I think it sounds okay after hearing it so many times. But definitely doesnt deserve number 1.

Next week probably S.H.E may champ, or that the 4 local singers will continue their reign. Slight chance of Jay Champing.
